Finally a proper guide to all characters, their stats, upgrades and unlocks. Currently (ULTRA UPDATE), there are 18 characters to choose from. Each character got it's own role (determined by their stats and starting items). This guide provides a massive help with choice for lvling and play style.

The upgrade system is fairly simple. You're collecting malbytes that can be dropped from tough enemies. They transfer from each playthrough and you can spend them to upgrade characters (in this case Niblle is an exception).

The progression system looks like this:
  • lvl 1 equals 10 malbytes
  • lvl 2 = 30
  • lvl 3 = 60
    100 in total

After the update multiplier changed into percentage. It means that instead of * or x it's %. In our case it means that 50% equals x0.5. For consistency I'll stick to the old visual.

Sometimes a stat has a multiplier in brackets after it (X). Some characters also have multipliers bonus. Unique items can add multiplier as well. That means that this multiplier is already applied to the number shown, and is an indicator of the effectiveness of future increases or decreases.

For example, if your stat is listed like this
Damage: 2.2 (x2)
it means that your damage is still 2.2, but gaining a +0.3 (0.3*2=0.6) damage boost will increase your damage to 2.8.

This character is randomly available after unlocking an access to a new zone.
Gets more health drops! But he is pretty weak.

Unlocked by beating the boss "Retroboy" In order to defeat him you need to open the portal. It could be done by defeating 3 special enemies (Pacman, a Super Mushroom, and one of the Space Invaders aliens) with timer (20 seconds). If you manage to kill 3 of them on time a portal to boss room will be spawned upon killing the last one. Remember: they only stay for a limited time after they spawn, so make sure to kill them quickly!

For squib:

"Jump synergy item. Collect 2 more of this set to get the "Infinitejumps" synergy item, which will give you unlimited jumping in midair."

The jump synergy item is "super jump boots" (hold jump to charge a boosted jump).
